Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former prime minister Imran Khan's application against 'jail trial' in contempt of court case by Election Commission of Pakistan has been set for hearing.
According to the details, the Registrar Office of Lahore High Court fixed the application for hearing on January 29 and made the Federal Government, ECP and others complainants.
The Lahore High Court on January 22 rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan's plea by the Commission ECP to stay the 'jail trial' in the contempt of court case.
It should be noted that PTI founder Imran Khan and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry were indicted by the Election Commission of Pakistan on January 3 in a contempt of court case.
The contempt case was heard in Adiala Jail - where the PTI founder is currently being held by the court.
During the hearing, the accused in the case were formally charged, after which the hearing was adjourned till January 16.
In August 2022, the ECP issued notices to the PTI founder and others for allegedly using "indecent" language against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and the election watcher.
Political leaders have repeatedly criticized the commission and CEC Sikandar Raja and termed the electoral body as a subsidiary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
