Scientists have discovered an anti-cancer protein they say turns a deadly switch on killing cancer cells, which could pave the way for new cancer treatments.
According to the details, American scientists have discovered a part of the protein outside the cancer cells that can destroy these cancer cells when activated.
The new research findings could give doctors the ability to change existing therapies, for example the discovery could enable cART cell therapy to fight solid tumors such as breast, lung and prostate cancer.
Modern therapy involves giving cancer patients specially engineered T cells that seek out and destroy tumors.
Doctors of University of California are of view that these cells have difficulty fighting solid tumors because immune cells cannot enter these tumors to have an effect.
CD95 receptors are located outside the membrane of cancer cells. When activated, these release signals that cause cells to self-destruct. Scientists have known about these receptors for a long time, but attempts to activate them have been unsuccessful.
Scientists at the University of California Cancer Center have identified a part of the receptor that can trigger cell destruction when targeted. It is hoped that this research will lead to cures for cancer patients in the coming years
